One Foot in the Gargrave

The One Foot in the Gargrave challenge event:

• Event Details:
  • Date: Saturday, September 7th, 2024
  • Start Time: 8:30 am
  • Distance: 23 miles
  • Time Limit: Participants have 9 hours to complete the walk.
  • Region/Area: Northern England, specifically the Yorkshire Dales
  • Local Group: West Yorkshire Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA)
• Route:
  • The walk starts from Gargrave Village Hall, located on West Street in Gargrave, Skipton, North Yorkshire (Grid ref: SD 931541).
  • The picturesque route takes you through the scenic setting of Malhamdale.
• Checkpoints:
  1. Scosthrop Lane (Checkpoint 1, 5.3 miles): Cold drinks and snacks (Grid ref: SD 886596)
  2. Street Gate (Checkpoint 2, 10.6 miles): Hot drinks and snacks (Grid ref: SD 904656)
  3. Boss Moor Lane (Checkpoint 3, 16.75 miles): Hot drinks and snacks (Cut-off time at 3 pm) (Grid ref: SD 955619)
  4. Hills Lane (Checkpoint 4, 19.6 miles): Cold drinks and snacks (Grid ref: SD 945585)
• Finish:
  • Return to Gargrave Village Hall (Grid ref: SD 931541) for a hot meal (a vegetarian option is available) and hot drinks.
• Entry Details:
  • LDWA members: £12 (online entry) or £17 (on the day)
  • Non-LDWA members: £20 (online entry) or £25 (on the day)
  • Entry includes drinks and refreshments at all checkpoints and the finish.
  • Please bring your own mug for drinks to reduce plastic wastage.
• Additional Information:
  • Dogs are allowed on the walk under close control but not inside the Village Hall.
  • Competitors who finish within the 9-hour time limit will receive certificates.
  • Walkers must carry a suitable map, compass, waterproof clothing, and a mug.
